Life is about creating those beautiful alliances

I am sure many of you have seen the movie, Castaway.

Of course, Tom Hanks did a brilliant job and got nominated for best actor in a leading role at the 73rd Academy award.

But I am not going to discuss the movie nor the actors.

Let me delve into the story.

We all have seen extreme survival movies where the protagonist gets stranded in an unknown hostile environment.

Then the story unfolds how human ingenuity prevails, the struggle, the ups-down, and at the end, the triumphs.

Assume, for a moment, you are stranded alone in a similar situation.

What is the first thing that would come to your mind?

Oh! Shit, if someone else was here.

You are not looking for the best partners, but someone with whom you can share your struggle, your pain, and someone with whom you can do it together.

Have you heard about Alexander Selkirk?

A navy officer who was forced to spend more than four years as a castaway after his captain marooned him on an unhabituated island.

His story inspired Daniel Defoe to Robinson Crusoe.

Then William Cowper wrote the famous poem. “ The Solitude of Alexander Selkirk.” and he wrote,

“Society, Friendship, and Love
Divinely bestow’d upon man,
Oh had I the wings of a dove
How soon would I taste you again!”

In the ordinary course of time, we do not value that association of people; we take it for granted.

We take relationships for granted because we think it is always there and it will always be there.

But if we were Alexander Selkirk, we would have probably understood better the value of society, friendship, and association or companionship.

Centuries later, we have almost become Alexander Selkirk.

We are so much into our little universe and gadgets that we are connected but isolated and lonely.

That is why today, people are more bored, more depressed.

Your gadgets and social media will give instant stimulus, but it cannot bring the pure joy that you feel when connected with people.

The universe and the living beings are so interconnected, so interdependent; they form beautiful and mutually benevolent systems.

They even may not know about the same.

Honey bees collect nectar from flowers and cross-pollinate, and new varieties emerge.

Human beings create alliances, forms families, communities, societies.

The association and sacred agreement between two human beings in the form of marriage or partnership help procreate and ensure the continuity of the human race.

Life is creating those beautiful alliances, associations.

Alliances for family, friends, and partners.

How many times have you heard that we alone could do only little things and together we can do so much.

And you know there are people in your life, a true friend, your spouse, or your parents, who put your happiness, your success ahead of their own.

They are not there to judge you but to love you.

And the most interesting part is that most people think that they are fortunate enough to have someone like that in their life.

Isn’t it beautiful?

While growing up, my elder sister played that role; she always wished more success than her own.

And needless to say about our parents, universally, they do not even blink when it comes to supporting their children.

What do you think?

Do you have those beautiful alliances?
